I Only Know That I Know Nothing

Hello world!
I go by "onlyknownothing." I used to use LiveJournal back at the turn of the millennium, as "baby's first social media," so this is kind of things coming full circle in a way.I was on cohost (RIP eggbug) under the same username. I'm going to try and keep some of the culture and energy of that place alive in this new home, but mostly you'll find me posting an eclectic mix of art and neat things I've found intriguing or relaxing or important. As for that last one, I tend to focus on helping people; probably a good third of what I post thus tends to be "useful information" stuff - public service announcements, tips/tricks/tools from some site or other, resources you might find valuable, that sort of thing.
If you have something to say, or just want to say hello - please do. I am a private sort of person when it comes to publicly revealing personal information (I'm from the "don't share info on the internet" era), but that doesn't mean I don't want to talk to you. I just don't want the entire world to know everything about me. If anything becomes a burning curiosity, you can PM me if you'd like and I may answer if we've talked before on other things. I'm very interested in bringing the "social" back to social media, since I live in a place where I can't exactly openly be my honest self often. Consider this an open invitation to leave a message if anything I say or post here strikes you such that you'd like to.
I tend to post in waves - lots of activity, followed by little activity. It doesn't mean I'm not here anymore, it just means I haven't seen anything interesting lately or don't have the energy to do the finding of credits and sources I consider a valuable part of posting things like art. (Somebody took time and energy to make the thing, I want them to be recognized and their vision to be communicated as well as the picture.) You will probably see me commenting in places even then, since I comment at least as much as (and usually more than) I actually post.
If you want to talk about TTRPGs, especially game design and RPG theory, please let me know. I used to do work for a (now defunct) small press game publisher, writing and editing and design, and still enjoy "talking shop" about it. Haven't found a good home for that here yet.
Pleasure to see you here, and have a great day! 😊

Don't have much to say, but want to show appreciation? Feel free to leave a single-emoji comment (🙂, 👍, ❤️, or whatever!) to let me know you like what you see! Please let me know if you happen to stumble upon a dead or redirected image-link in my posts. Dreamwidth does not have the best image-hosting, and so I try to refer back to primary sources (museum websites, Wikimedia commons, and so on) where possible - but that means I do not have control over whether they are taken down or changed. Send me a message or comment on this post and I will happily do my best to correct the issue as soon as I can.
I will make every attempt to put cuts around any content which might be considered "not safe for work," as well as those which contain anything which might be sensitive subjects to others. Currently I will always content-cut anything which may strobe or flash, out of respect for epileptics, as well as gore and insects (due to those being common triggers for others). I will detail the cut (by giving it a name, same as this one was) with the reason for its existence, and if you wish for me to add a new content warning due to certain images I've posted causing you issues - please do let me know. I will be happy to work with you to make this a more comfortable place for you to visit.

Date: 2024-10-08 03:20 pm (UTC)Yeah - that was also the "A/S/L" era, but I internalized all the PSAs that came from where parents were absolutely losing their mind that their kids might share things with strangers online. ☠️
Nowadays everybody has their workplace, schedule, political affiliations, and credit scores attached to their full legal name online it seems. I... don't think that's healthy. Promotes either self-censorship or major consequences due to the internet being a place anyone - including those who wish you harm - can access. Doxxing is bad, don't do it to yourself. 🤷
