- Partner's surgery was yesterday
- It went really well, she was cleared to go home last night and didn't even have to overnight in the hospital (which is very good!)
- The post-COVID environment is going to lead to a whole lot more death from post-surgical infection - we are literally careening towards pre-Semmelweis behavior as a result of people taking "care about causing infection" as a political stance. I brought a bunch of masks to the hospital, but literally nobody (including the people who wheeled her into the room post-surgery and every staff member thereafter) would wear one. It was a struggle just to get people to fucking wash their hands before touching her.
- So super-duper glad I insisted she get the COVID and flu vaccines ASAP when we learned this was going to be happening, because I'm certain she would've caught one of the two otherwise. Really hoping that the brevity of the experience will keep her from taking home a cold of some sort - she's on preventative antibiotics for the obvious reasons (hole in head), but fuck.

I've been taking extra zinc and other immune-boosting stuff in efforts to avoid catching a cold from the sea of unmasked people in the various waiting rooms, and I hope it bears fruit.
It's just ridiculous. Even if nowhere else, a hospital should be the place everybody masks. If only to avoid getting saliva particles from speech in fresh surgical wounds. I mean hell, this is the place where "surgical masks" are reasonable minimums!
Ugh. At least she appears to have escaped the worst of it, but I shudder to imagine the people who are getting cancer surgeries after chemo or other immune-damaging treatments.
