With the solar maximum occurring right now, the Night Images Flickr group (RSS feed at nightpix_flickr_feed) is getting some amazing aurora images. This one, from George Stamets, also captures the ruins of Llanthony Priory in Wales.

Hey, one of the best views of the solar eclipse I've ever seen was captured in a Waffle House parking lot. Sometimes the juxtaposition of the "mundane" against something naturally fantastic provides great contrast and visual interest. It's all about timing, framing, and compositional choice.

Makes total sense. I have an acquaintance who could take a picture of a dirty light switch in an abandoned mental hospital and it would end up as something you’d hang on the wall.
